Warning about recycled waste oil supply in the North Island
2 December 2024
It is believed that one of the main North Island recycled waste oil suppliers will leave the market in June 2025, because they believe there is more money to be made in selling waste oil for export. At the same time, it is believed that the supplier will tell the New Zealand Government that burning waste oil should be banned in this country for environmental reasons.
If the supplier in question leaves the market, the other main supplier will need to pick up extra customers and will have more of a monopoly on the market. The other supplier supplies both the North and South Island, has no issues with product availability, so think they can meet demand.
It is speculated that all this will come to pass just as the temperature in New Zealand is plummeting. As a result, growers who use recycled waste oil are advised to check their current contractual agreements, and look to make arrangements with another supplier for assurance of continued supply.
