Spring integrated pest management workshops: register now for 16 Oct start
1 October 2024
Following last season’s successful workshops, Vegetables NZ – as part of A Lighter Touch – is hosting a series of Spring integrated pest management (IPM) workshops, starting on Wednesday 16 October.
Broccoli will be the focus crop, but the workshops will also include information on onions and barley.
All growers, agronomists and crop advisers are welcome to join and take part. The classroom session will be online, so those outside the Pukekohe area will have the option of joining.
The workshop will follow a similar model as the previous ones, with two sessions, an outdoor and a classroom session. The outdoor session will focus on crop monitoring, how to inspect a crop for pests and diseases, and identification, etc. Participants will also have the chance to look at some of the biodiversity work being carried out at the Pukekohe demonstration farm.
The classroom session will review what was found outdoors, and consider whether any intervention is required, what is compatible with IPM practices, and the effects of any management options taken. There will also have guest speakers to provide additional information on pests, diseases, or other crops.
Timing
The workshops start on Wednesday 16 October and continue each week until Wednesday 4 December.
